about

Crystal Oblivion is a long form piece inspired by the process of X-Ray Crystallography - a method of determining the atomic and molecular structure of a crystal.

X-Rays diffracting into various directions when passed through a crystal made me think of bells and how a single chime can have an initial pitch but then a complex array of overtones and harmonics. I wanted to hear the journey from acoustic bells into their synthesized counterparts.... like they were being re-translated...

An initial theme and various motifs are transformed and reimagined throughout the piece, just as a crystal is "reimagined" through X-Ray Crystallography to become an atomic model.
