The soundscape is chaotic, isolated, disjointed, fear provoking, yielding a physically and psychologically frightening experience. Yet, there are feelings of hope that creep in, as the terror loosens its hold for a moment, before the dreadful burden of the ensuing battle resurfaces. The darkness is scary. Existence X is an album of five minimalist compositions that attempt to portray in music the challenges of a worried mind. Exploring themes of melancholia, inner turmoil and despair, but also acceptance, strength and above all else, hope.

The musical structures were drafted on a humble keyboard using a simple organ flute preset. These initial ideas were then recreated and developed through a musique concrète process of carefully assembling and sequencing prepared sounds at different pitches, lengths and speeds.

The sound palette was created with a mixture of synthesizers and acoustic instruments recorded to 1/4” tape and edited, looped and played back at different speeds through various signal processing. Many nuances of the original compositions were lost in translation. Distorted or smudged into obscurity or decimated by the continual transference back and forth to magnetic tape.

However other aspects were augmented to become entirely different sounds that somehow outshone their original counterparts.

I hope that I am somehow conveying that no matter how dark things may seem at times, there is always light waiting to break through, and you are not alone. ❤️
